Based on the recent investigations by WorkSafe in to the management and exposure to welding fumes, Scaada have been involved in a regional monitoring program across numerous businesses investigating welding fume exposure. The investigation highlights the risks and the need for adjustments to keep our clients compliant and their staff safe in the workplace.
Welding fumes have been proven to be a carcinogenic and those exposed are at a 43% increased risk of lung cancer compared to those that have never welded. The recent standards amendment mean the exposure is significantly reduced and old extraction systems are no longer viable or relevant. In 2017 the World Health Organisation have grouped welding fumes with such hazardous materials as silica and asbestos.
To stay compliant and provide a safe workplace take proactive action today and contact Scaada for an assessment that could save you from a significant fine, and your staff from long term impact illnesses.
