Scaada Environmental has played a central role in the ongoing site environmental assessment and regulatory compliance monitoring of the Fyansford Landfill in Victoria. The scope of works included the development, implementation, and verification of a comprehensive Risk Management and Monitoring Program (RMMP) in accordance with EPA licence conditions. Monitoring activities covered landfill gas, groundwater, leachate, and surface water, supported by structured reporting and audit processes.
Challenge
The landfill operates under strict EPA licence requirements across both active and closed landfill cells, requiring consistent monitoring, accurate reporting, and timely responses to emerging risks. The key challenge was maintaining compliance across multiple environmental parameters while responding to surface landfill gas exceedances and ensuring monitoring programs remained robust, adaptive, and regulator-aligned over time.

Scaada delivered a coordinated environmental monitoring program incorporating quarterly landfill gas monitoring, biannual groundwater, surface water, and leachate sampling, and ongoing landfill gas risk assessment activities. A structured RMMP was developed and verified, integrating historical data, site-specific assessments, and trend analysis. Monitoring and reporting were supported by a NATA-accredited laboratory, with environmental audits conducted in collaboration with EPA-appointed auditors. Targeted remediation and follow-up monitoring were implemented where surface gas exceedances were identified, ensuring risks were addressed effectively.
