In the aftermath of a major industrial fire, Scaada provided an emergency environmental response focused on minimising soil and groundwater contamination. The scope included identifying contamination hotspots, managing above-ground industrial waste, and applying site stabilisation measures to prevent further contamination spread.
The facility had stored large volumes of hand sanitiser and pesticides, resulting in widespread ethanol contamination across multiple soil layers. Debris and waste were classified as Category A industrial waste, while project progress was hindered by insurance investigations and local authority reviews.
Scaada’s environmental team delineated ethanol-affected zones and produced a Preliminary Remediation Action Plan (RAP) to guide containment and remediation. To prevent further migration, the team implemented a polymer soil stabilisation spray across high-risk zones — effectively reducing infiltration and airborne dust while containing residual contamination.
The site was successfully transitioned to an environmental “make-safe” status, with Scaada’s erosion and sediment controls verified by local authorities as effective. In completing the required fieldworks and reporting, Scaada demonstrated the importance of rapid, practical response planning in environmental emergency management. As a result, the EPA Environmental Action Notice (EAN) was lifted and closed.
