Scaada Environmental was engaged by LSR Construction Group to deliver dust suppression in construction assessments and noise monitoring at a hazardous waste management facility in Melbourne, Victoria. Commencing in November 2024 and ongoing, the project focuses on evaluating occupational exposure to inhalable airborne dust and noise during normal processing conditions.
The scope includes static inhalable dust monitoring, noise level monitoring, and reporting to support effective environmental dust control and construction site dust control practices.
Challenge
Operations at the facility involve variable processing activities and changing site conditions, which can influence airborne dust levels and noise emissions. The key challenge was to accurately measure dust control on site and noise exposure while accounting for fluctuating background noise levels and evolving operational conditions. Monitoring needed to be robust, repeatable, and compliant with relevant Australian standards.
Project Outcome
Solution
Scaada Occupational Hygiene Services implemented a targeted monitoring program incorporating static inhalable dust monitoring to assess occupational exposure and site dust suppression effectiveness. Noise monitoring was undertaken using noise dosimeters to measure general plant noise levels leaving the site, with all monitoring conducted in accordance with AS/NZS 1269.1 (2005) Occupational noise management standards.
An ongoing monitoring plan was established to capture changes in site conditions over time and support effective dust control management. Analysis and delineation of noise sources enabled practical recommendations to minimise dust and noise generation, supporting commercial dust control outcomes.
Outcome
The project delivered accurate, standards-compliant monitoring data to support dust suppression in construction and noise risk management at the facility. Scaada’s assessment provides LSR Construction Group with clear, evidence-based insights to improve construction site dust control and manage noise impacts under changing operational conditions. The ongoing program supports continuous improvement and compliance with Australian standards.
