Project Scope
APCO Ballarat engaged SCAADA (one of Australia’s leading soil remediation companies) to project manage and remediate an old landfill quarry site to a safe reusable standard, in line with national environmental guidelines, ahead of a major retail development.
One of the key project challenges presented to SCAADA was the inability to define the extent of contamination along with managing the varying types of contamination that presented throughout the project in order to complete the remediation works to the desired outcome. After discussions with the client, SCAADA was able to create value through out of the box thinking which led to cost-effective and sustainable outcomes.
Project Outcome
As a leading asbestos testing company, SCAADA was able to implement a range of sustainable and cost-effective solutions to manage site waste and successfully remediated the landfill quarry site to a development-ready standard. With minimal soil being bulk removed from the site we were able to mitigate expensive soil removal costs and associated landfill levy fees for the client. Due to the waste management strategies put in place at the beginning of the project SCAADA was able to assist with providing major cost savings of up to $3m (AUD) as well as a reduction in development delays.
